Think a Car Wash is Enough? Think Again.

We’ve all been there: you run through the $10 wash, and the car looks “fine” from five feet away. But as a professional detailer, I can tell you that a standard wash is only doing half the job. In fact, sometimes it’s doing more harm than good.

The “Sandpaper” Effect

If you wash your car and then run your hand across the paint, does it feel smooth like glass or rough like fine sandpaper? If it’s rough, those are “embedded contaminants”—tiny bits of brake dust, rail dust, and industrial fallout that have melted into your clear coat. A normal wash can’t touch these. You need a Clay Bar treatment and an Iron Remover to pull those out before they start to oxidize and cause rust.

Dressing vs. Protecting

Most car washes spray a greasy “tire shine” on your wheels and call it a day. The problem? That grease often contains silicones that actually dry out your tires over time. At Elite, we use water-based dressings and UV inhibitors that nourish the rubber and plastic, keeping them from turning that ugly, chalky grey.

Don’t settle for “fine.” Give your car the deep-clean it deserves.
