Have you ever looked at your car in the direct sunlight and seen what looks like a spiderweb of tiny scratches? Those are “swirl marks,” and they are the #1 reason why cars look “old” even when they are clean.
Where Do Swirls Come From?
In almost every case, swirl marks are caused by improper washing. Using a dirty sponge, an old beach towel to dry the car, or—worst of all—the brushes at an automatic car wash. These micro-scratches catch the light and prevent it from reflecting straight back at you, which is why the paint looks dull and grey instead of deep and vibrant.
The Cure: Paint Correction
The only way to truly “say goodbye” to swirls is through paint correction. This is a surgical process where we use diminishing abrasives to level the clear coat by a fraction of a micron. We essentially “shave off” the scratches until the surface is perfectly flat again. The result? A mirror finish that looks better than the day the car left the showroom.
